• DWTS Season 14

Message from Cheryl: 

 

Dear fans, family and friends,

 

It was an honor that our team won the first ever Ballroom Battle trophy last week. It was a special thrill to coach such a talented amateur couple and then watch as they came out on top during the final competition on live television.

 

I finally got William to take his shirt off and it was not easy. He asked, "Cheryl, why do have to do this? I just want to dance." I explained it was part of the show, the drama of a dance performance. But he is a surprisingly modest guy at heart. Fortunately he is also a true team player and he wowed the crowd, especially the ladies, as he always does.

 

Best of all, I believe William delivered an elegant and graceful Waltz and a strikingly forceful Paso Doble that night. I can't ask for more from a partner.

 

Last night we danced the Foxtrot and the Paso Doble. I'm amazed by William's ongoing determination to push forward, gaining ground in each of our practice sessions. He's a trooper during this most competitive season ever on DWTS. We just have to work harder, remain focused and push for the finals.

World Arts West, a supportive partner of Cheryl Burke Dance, is presenting the 34th annual San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival from June 2 through July 1. Promoting cultural heritage and strengthening ethnic community, the event features 30 Bay Area dance companies. This entertaining and colorful festival opens at Fort Mason Center, moves to prominent San Francisco museums, and concludes at the Yerba Buena's Novellus Theater for three weekends. After a brief vacation, Silke will start another five-week series, beginning on June 2nd, offered again as either a series or drop-in.

Five weeks for $100 or $30 Drop-In.

Bonus #1: Students have the option of participating in a team performance during our next Showcase - in August!

Bonus #2: Each student in the class will get access to videos with demos by Silke, complete with counts and music, posted on a private Facebook Group.

• Yoga Meets Dance™ - a NEW class on Saturdays, May 12.

We have received great feedback about this drop-in class, which is based on easy Hatha yoga, free-spirited dance, guided imagery, music therapy, gentle humor, community building and meditation. Exotic rhythms set your body and spirit free. Non-dancers - all abilities, shapes and sizes - are welcome to join.    No experience needed. Beginners welcome! Give it a try!   Instructor Jessica Ruby is a certified Yoga Meets Dance™ instructor, Certified Hatha Yoga Instructor, and a practicing Yogi, having taught people from age 5 to 77 since 2004. An avid Salsa, Merengue, 5 Rhythms, and Belly Dancer, Jessica combines the joy of dance, music, and therapeutic play.     Saturday, May 12: 11 a.m. - Noon. Drop-in: $15 per class.

• Thursday Latin Performance Classes New Series Starts May 24.

A new six-week series of "Latin Medley" classes for ladies with Silke Heleine begins on May 24. The "Beginners Latin Bombshell" class, starting at 7 p.m., prepares dancers for the more advanced classes at 8 and 9 p.m. This series - beginning, intermediate and advanced Latin routines - continues in the months ahead, with formation team routines set for upcoming Showcases!

• Nightclub Dance Classes - Thursday Evenings - May 10

Join instructor Kimi Wynn for a four-month summer series - May through August. Each month will focus on one of four basic nightclub dance styles for the beginning level dancer: Salsa, Nightclub Two Step, West Coast Swing and Hustle. Thursdays: 5:45 - 6:30 p.m.

Be sure to check our online calendar for dates, times and details. All classes now carry one of the following descriptions: "Newcomer," "Beginner/Intermediate," or "Intermediate/Advanced."

Look for the red "NEW!" designation. Some of these are first-time offerings at our studio. Others feature new instructors teaching an established dance style in a different way, a new level of instruction, or a new day or time for a class.
